I’ve been a book lover all my life, and romance will always be my favorite genre. Give me a love story, and I’ll devour it in hours! But here’s my challenge: I want to read more books by Tanzanian authors—yet finding romance written by Tanzanians feels nearly impossible.
Most Tanzanian literature I’ve come across focuses on social issues, history, or drama, but where are the swoon-worthy love stories? If they exist, they’re hidden gems. So my mission this year is to hunt them down—even if it means digging into short stories, Swahili novels (riwaya), or self-published works.
How I’ll Make It Happen:
Look for Romantic Subplots – If pure romance is rare, I’ll explore books where love plays a key role, even if it’s not the main focus.
Dive into Swahili Literature – Maybe the best love stories are in Kiswahili novels I haven’t discovered yet.
Search Beyond Traditional Publishing – Check Wattpad, blogs, or indie authors who might be writing romance under the radar.
Ask for Recommendations – Fellow book lovers, Tanzanian book clubs, or online forums might know hidden treasures.
